Thanks For The Little While

I cursed God and I cursed fate

I told everyone that I couldn’t wait till I could go

It turned me inside out and upside down

I could barely breathe or get around

 It hurt me so

It took some time but one day I knew

I’d spend the rest of my life

 Telling the world about you

Thanks for the hugs and all the kisses

And your sweet laughter everybody misses

Thanks for the joy and the m-e-m-o-r-i-e-s

 I still cry…  ‘cause it ain’t easy

But then again I have to smile

 Thanks for the little while

I have learned it’s up to me

To give you a voice for the world to see

 So that’s what I do

Your love has been my guiding light

So I hold on to it tight

 It helps me through

I had to let that anger go

So I could let all my love for you show

Thanks for the hugs and all the kisses

And your sweet laughter everybody misses

Thanks for the joy and the m-e-m-o-r-i-e-s

 I still cry…  believe me

But then again I have to smile

 Thanks for the little while

I have so much more love to give

You had so much more life to live

And in my dreams that’s just how it would be

 Our story wasn’t long enough

But every page was filled with love

And you will always be a part of me

So I won’t let tomorrow take away

All the beauty we shared yesterday

Thanks for the hugs and your sweet kisses

There’s so much about you everybody misses

Thanks for the joy and the m-e-m-o-r-i-e-s

 I’ll always cry…  ‘cause it ain’t easy

But then again I’ll have to smile

 Thanks for the little while

But then again I’ll have to smile

Thank you for the little while

One More Lullaby

I remember when we brought you home

Wrapped in a blanket safe and warm

I woke that first night to your cry

You needed changed and fed

Before we put you in to bed

I sang to you your first lullaby

Through the years it was a special time

I’d take words and make them rhyme

It’s something that we did every night

After I love you’s and prayers were said

And you were safely tucked in bed

I would sing to you a lullaby

Tonight I was sitting here

The moon was bright

And the sky was clear

I swear I could almost hear your cry

So I dusted off this old guitar

Looked up to our favorite star

So I could sing you one more lullaby

Good night my baby

Rest in peace tonight

I miss you baby

Wish I could hold you tight

I know you’re safe in Heaven

I know you’re doing fine

In the arms of God is where I’d want you to be

If you couldn’t be in mine

In the arms of God is where I’d want you to be

If you couldn’t be in mine

Goodnight my baby

Somewhere

Words and Music by Alan Pedersen

I was stuck in a traffic jam

Just this side of Birmingham

I was losing time and running late

When I came up on the flares and cones

It all hit a little close to home

‘Cause I could see no one had walked away

I just had to stop and pray

‘Cause I know

Somewhere there’s a Mother cryin’

Somewhere there’s a Daddy cryin’

Somewhere there’s a family cryin’ too

Somewhere there’s a broken heart

Some world’s been torn apart

Some body’s trying to make sense

But it don’t make sense

And it ain’t fair

At the hotel checkin’ in

The clerk was watchin’ CNN

A reporter said it happened just today

They were showing footage from the war

A Fallen Hero proud of what he was fightin’ for

Then they showed his best friend wipe a tear away

I just had to stop and pray

‘Cause I know

Somewhere there’s a Mother cryin’

Somewhere there’s a Daddy cryin’

Somewhere there’s a family cryin’ too

Somewhere there’s a broken heart

Some world’s been torn apart

Some body’s trying to make sense

But it don’t make sense

And it ain’t fair

Somewhere

Every time I hear that news

I know just what they’re going through

I’m still walking in their shoes today

It always takes me back in time

When my world stopped on a dime

And while I know there really are no words to say

I take a moment and I pray

‘Cause I know

Somewhere there’s a Mother cryin’

Somewhere there’s a Daddy cryin’

Somewhere there’s a family cryin’ too

Somewhere there’s a broken heart

Some world’s been torn apart

Some body’s trying to make sense

But it don’t make sense

And it ain’t fair

Somewhere

Somewhere

It’s My Life

Words and Music by Alan Pedersen

It’s good to see the sun break through the clouds today

I remember how you loved the month of May

I’m back at work again

Your mom and me we put the garden in

Uncle Joe finally gets to retire

And I’m back singing in the choir

It’s life it’s my life

I live it with a broken heart
there’ll always be a missing part

To my life - it’s just life

Living without you is not an easy thing to do

It’s my life

We finally had to put ole’ Rusty down

I cried for three straight days for that old hound

Your mom doesn’t sleep too much at night

She keeps telling everybody she’s alright

And little brother’s missing you there’s no doubt

It’s something he won’t talk about

It’s life it’s my life

I live it with a broken heart
there’ll always be a missing part

To my life - it’s just life

Living without you is not an easy thing to do

It’s my life

I try holdin’ it all together

But sometimes it comes undone

When I look in the mirror I don’t recognize

This life that I live or the man I’ve become

When I talk to you like this I don’t feel so alone

That really is a pretty stone

So I do the best I can

It’s been awhile now so most folks don’t understand

Yes I’ve kept my faith but it still hurts

I guess I better get on back to work

It’s life it’s my life

I live it with a broken heart
there’ll always be a missing part

To my life - it’s just life

Living without you is not an easy thing to do

It’s my life

It’s my life

I miss you

Peace In The Mourning

I’m finding peace

Peace in the mourning

I’m finding my way

One tear at a time

I never dreamed

That you’d go before me

But I believe there’s a Heaven

And that eases my mind

It don’t mean life is perfect

Or I think it’s fair

And there’s questions

I have my share

But I’ll be looking for answers

One beautiful day

When we are together

And the veils pulled away

I’m finding peace

Peace in the mourning

I’m finding my way

One tear at a time

I never dreamed

That you’d go before me

But I believe there’s a Heaven

And that eases my mind

So I’m letting go now

Of that deepest of pain

But there’s a sweet sorrow

That will always remain

Through the darkest of valleys

One thing is true

I hold on to the love

Yes I cling to the love

‘Cause that’s the best part of you

I’m finding peace

Peace in the mourning

I’m finding my way

One tear at a time

I never dreamed

That you’d go before me

But I believe there’s a Heaven

And that eases my mind

Yeah, I believe there’s a Heaven

 And that eases my mind

Olivia’s Song

When stars fall from the Heavens

I always wondered they land

Till one day a most precious star

Fell gently in my hand

New joy was found all around

Where sorrow had been spent

You weren’t merely born my child

You were Heaven sent

My tears returned as raindrops

As sorrow and laughter danced

How could I have imagined

I’d hold loves second chance

You are a one and only

So special and unique

And everything is beautiful

The circle is complete

Your smile can take my breath away

You’re a miracle and more

Your love takes me to a better place

I have been before

A rekindled fire burns a new desire

To walk with faith and grace

With a heart renewed

I’ve learned the truth

God’s gifts are never too late

My tears returned as raindrops

As sorrow and laughter danced

How could I have imagined

I’d hold loves second chance

You are a one and only

So special and unique

And everything is beautiful

The circle is complete

Someday

Words and Music by Alan Pedersen

From the time I was a lad

I knew I’d be a dad… some day

Livin’ in a big old house

Filled with kids and Mickey Mouse… one day

I’d give back all the love I got

When I was a kid

We’d say grace and sing Jesus loves me

Just like my family did

Then some day became one day

I held my baby girl for the first time and I knew

Such beauty in her face

I was blinded by her grace

Bein’ her daddy is what I was meant to do

She filled our house with love

And I knew that she’d grow up… some day

That teddy bears and paper dolls

Turned to boys and shopping malls… one day

It was so hard letting go

That first step that she took

And even harder down the road

When boys would take a second look

When some day became one day

I looked around my little girl was grown

Those years went by so fast

I wish I could have made them last

She said Daddy soon I can make it on my own

Seasons come and go

A lifetime ends I know

I thought one day she would bury me

But the road that I had planned

Slipped right through my hand

One day… that some day

I took the call saying she was gone

My tears came pouring down

It knocked me to the ground

I didn’t think that I could carry on

Now God helps me with the pain

So I drive on through the rain… some days

When I think all hope is lost

My eyes turn toward the cross… and one day

Cause I’m standing on a promise

Holding to my faith

That says good bye is not forever

So patiently I’ll wait

For some day that one day

When I get to see my little girls face

In that land that knows no tears

We’ll find our missing years

S-O-M-E-D-A-Y

We’ll find our missing years

In that land that knows no tears

S-O-M-E-D-A-Y

S-O-M-E-D-A-Y

Stop And Smell The Flowers

Words and Music by Alan Pedersen

Copyright 2011EverAshley Music

I have to admit since that awful day

I no longer look at life the same old way

When you’ve been to the darkest

And the deepest place you know

There really is no other choice

Or way to go

It’s a high price to pay to be a better man

But you going away made me understand

That life is precious

Love’s a gift

Time doesn’t heal

But there’s a peace that comes

When you make the most of it

It’s not where you’re going

Or where you’ve been

It’s in knowing that this moment

Will never be here again

So I’ll sit and watch this sunset for hours

Losing you

Has taught me to

Stop and smell the flowers

Now I don’t sweat the small stuff

I’ve learned to slow down

I spent so many years looking ahead

I forgot to look around

There’s a beauty everywhere

That too often goes unseen

Like the pure and simple joy

An I love you brings

I may never reach the top

But that’s ok

I’ll make peace with what I’ve got

And enjoy this day

'Cause life is precious

Love’s a gift

Time doesn’t heal

But there’s a peace that comes

When you make the most of it

It’s not where you’re going

Or where you’ve been

It’s in knowing that this moment

Will never be here again

So I’ll sit and watch this sunset for hours

Losing you

Has taught me to

Stop and smell the flowers

It’s a high price to pay to be a better man

But you going away has made me understand

'Cause life is precious

Love’s a gift

Time doesn’t heal

But there’s a peace that comes

When you make the most of it

It’s not where you’re going

Or where you’ve been

It’s in knowing that this moment

Will never be here again

So I’ll sit and watch this sunset for hours

Losing you

Has taught me to

Stop and smell the flowers

Elephant In The Room

Words and Music by Alan Pedersen

For as long as I can remember her favorite thing to do

Was visit all the elephants down at the zoo

She knew them all by name her favorite one was Clyde

He must have been 10 foot tall and 3 feet wide

Every time I tell that story it takes me back

It can make me cry it can make me laugh

Did you know…

An elephant don’t forget

They can weigh 10,000 pounds soaking wet

They feel pain and they cry tears

They can live for 80 years

But all this silence leads me to assume

That no one wants to talk about

The elephant in the room

We drove to Southern California

To stick our toes in the ocean sand

You should have seen her the next day

Riding Dumbo at Disneyland

We’d jump off the ride and get right back in line

We must have rode that ride at least a dozen times.

And every time I tell that story

It takes me back

It can make me cry it can make me laugh

Did you know…

An elephant don’t forget

They can weigh 10,000 pounds soaking wet

They feel pain and they cry tears

They can live for 80 years

But our silence leads me to assume

That no one wants to talk about

The elephant in the room

I know our children ain’t supposed to die

It makes you uneasy when I cry

I’m just trying to survive you see

Last week the circus came to town

So I stopped by to look around

Wouldn’t you know the first thing I would see

Was an elephant looking right at me

And I’m telling you it took me back

In case you didn’t know these are the facts

Don’t you know a daddy don’t forget

No matter how far down this road we get

We feel pain and we cry tears

We may live for 80 years

But we’ll always miss our angels gone too soon

And we’ll always need to talk about

ya we need to talk about the elephant in the room
